Baja Designs

At times, darkness falls on the trail ahead before one’s travels have come to an end. On other occasions, densely wooded landscapes cast shadows and doubt on what lies just out of sight. No matter the particular situation at hand, most avid off-road enthusiasts are all too aware of the valuable role that quality LED lighting plays when venturing far from the pavement.

This fact alone has given rise to a relatively new sector of the aftermarket industry over the past decade. While off-road lighting packages have been around for decades, the advent of custom LED lights and accessory kits has largely been a recent development. As this market has grown, numerous manufacturers have thrown their hat into the ring and have begun offering custom off-road lighting solutions of their own.

Of these many manufacturers, few are quite as prominent as Baja Designs. In the world of automotive lighting, Baja Designs stands atop the heap, offering custom LED products that are known for being bolder and brighter than those marketed by many competitors.

A Quarter-Century in The Making

Baja Designs’ story is a true testament to the age-old adage that necessity is the mother of all inventions. In fact, the sole reason behind Baja Designs’ inception as a company is that one man grew tired of the inadequacies associated with prior aftermarket lighting systems and decided to do something about it. That man was Alan Roach.

More than 25 years ago, Alan Roach, an avid Baja 1000 motorcycle racer, had grown tired of the limited off-road lighting solutions that consumers were presented with. Those that were already in production tended to be bulky, cumbersome, and largely ineffective at illuminating treacherous terrain in a viable manner. Roach was convinced that he could engineer a better alternative.

Upon forming this notion, Roach got down to the business of experimenting with various forms of lighting, in a bid to discern how best to proceed. From these efforts came Baja Designs’ first development, the Dual Sport Kit. This sport bike lighting kit provided motorcyclists with a lighter and more compact means of illuminating that which lay just out of sight. In time, the company also began offering the industry’s first HID motorcycle race light.

A vast array of consumer interest eventually led Alan Roach to expand his line of products to include purpose specific truck and buggy light kits. Roach and his team harnessed the same HID technology used in their race-proven sport bike systems and adapted it for use in truck, buggy, and Jeep specific applications.

Almost immediately, the BD HID unit became an instant favorite of Baja 1000 participants and skyrocketed in popularity. Soon, racers from around the world clamored at the opportunity to outfit their race vehicles with the latest tech offered by the San Diego-based manufacturer. This immense rise in popularity netted Baja Designs their now infamous title as “The Scientists of Lighting.”

In what could only be described as the next natural progression in Baja Designs’ string of never-ending, race-inspired development, the illustrious manufacturer introduced the industry’s first forward-facing LED light bar in time for the 2005 Baja 1000. In the years since, the popularity of this singular light bar has spawned a significant number of similar products within this aftermarket category.

Today, Baja Designs offers a full line of off-road LED lighting solutions, including driving/combo LED light kits, fog light kits, auxiliary light kits, rock lights, LED light pods, and high-speed spots. The company also manufactures custom wiring harnesses to support all of their products.

Lighting Solutions for Every Vehicle

Consumers can rest assured that Baja Designs offers the perfect solution to their lighting needs, no matter what vehicle they drive. The company manufactures both universal and model-specific light kits, making it easier than ever for off-roaders to find exactly what they are looking for.

From basic driving lights to high lumen-count spots and light bars, Baja Designs has you covered, no matter the situation.

The following are several of Baja Designs’ most popular product offerings.

Baja Designs Squadron Pro/Baja Designs Squadron Sport Kits

Baja Designs’ Squadron series LED driving lights are immensely popular with die-hard off-roaders the world over, and for good reason. Squadron series lights pack a serious punch, which allows drivers to visualize what lies ahead, and are offered in numerous configurations.

For those who prefer to blaze their own trail, it is hard to beat Baja Designs’ Pro Series Squadron driving lights. These lights operate at 40 watts and produce 4,900 lumens to literally cut through the night. The LEDs utilized by all Squadron Pro series lights carry a rated service life expectancy of 49,930 hours, making it highly unlikely that you will ever run into any issue related to longevity.

Baja Designs also offers Squadron Series lights that are SAE certified for street legal use, many of which are designed to provide factory-style fitment and can be used as a direct replacement for OEM lighting. Such options include the company’s Jeep JK fog pocket kits, which are offered in both white and amber. SAE-approved wide cornering lights are also available and come in a consumer’s choice of white or amber illumination.

Baja Designs S2 Pro/S2 Sport

If you are looking for a compact aftermarket lighting kit, which far exceeds the brightness associated with any other light kit of a similar size, then the Baja Designs S2 Series lighting kit is exactly what you have been searching for. Measuring only 3” X 2”, S2 Series lights are capable of being mounted in tight spots where few other lights would fit. However, one would be mistaken to underestimate the S2’s brightness just because of its rather reserved proportions.

S2 Pro Series lights operate at 24 watts and produce a total of 2,450 lumens, while sport series lights operate at 12 watts, producing 1,130 lumens. This is sure to provide ample visibility for the vast majority of applications, making S2 Series accessories the perfect addition to your next off-road build.

Much like the manufacturer’s Squadron series lights, S2 Pro and S2 Sport lighting kits are offered in both white and amber configurations. A number of additional lens colors are also available for consumers to choose from, including red, blue, and green. This makes it easier than ever to provide your truck, Jeep, or buggy with the customized look that you desire.

OnX6 Light Bars

Over the past decade, LED light bars have grown tremendously in popularity, providing an ever-increasing number of off-road enthusiasts with a practical and efficient means of illuminating all that lies before them. Of the numerous light bars on the market today, few are as capable as the Baja Designs OnX6 series. OnX6 series light bars come in a number of different configurations, all of which are engineered to serve a specific purpose.

Baja Designs’ OnX6+ series light bars offer both high and low operating ranges, with the former producing an output of 12,450 lumens and the latter producing 9,230 lumens. OnX6 Racer Edition light bars are rated at 6,450 lumens per 10" section and are engineered to provide superior illumination at speeds exceeding 110 MPH. Light bars within this series are designed to shine 40% further than standard OnX6 bars.

OnX6 Arc Series light bars offer all the same features found in conjunction with Baja Designs’ standard OnX6 bars yet are curved to mirror the contour of your truck or Jeep’s front end. Whether mounted above your vehicle’s bumper, or above its windshield, Arc Series light bars provide an aesthetically pleasing look that consumers are sure to be fond of.

OnX6 light bars are offered in a number of sizes, allowing consumers to select the option that best suits their particular needs. All such products are available in 10”, 20”, 30”, 40”, and 50” configurations.
